Solstice Festival in Fremont / Market as usual in Georgetown

Fremont Sunday Market is always closed on Mid-Summer holiday. Solstice parade and festival takes over the district, filling the streets with all manor of wild and wacky folks in and out of costumes and regalia. We have watched a large Yellow Submarine taking shape along Fremont Ave where the parade props are under construction, probably the entire Under Sea Garden will be making its way through the streets to the delight of throngs of revelers. Good fun for all I guess.

We have never actually been in town on these holidays ourselves. Huge masses of people in the streets tend to make me feel claustrophobic and since we participate in a somewhat laid back festival atmosphere every Sunday anyway, the change of pace is always a welcome diversion in our routine.

Usually I run a little garage sale here at home, two or three times spent the day at a well known north end flea market in south Everett.  But this year the Georgetown Market Place  is going to be open on Saturday and I will be there ready for action. Many of the regular Fremonters will be coming in to fill in the lost sales day, filling in the lot with lots of dealers plying their trade.

Even for folks who are not in the market for any flea; can't understand why one would poke around a flea market anyway, it is worth an outing just to have a look around.  The object of our show isn't so much the actual stuff piled in vendors stalls.  Sure it is a good place to find great vintage furniture, interesting decorator items, jewelry, even clothing and footwear, but what we are really all about in entertainment.  Folks who end up working this trade tend to be an odd assortment of characters, more busker than anything else.  Instead of a fiddle and an open case on the ground for contributions, our props are truck loads of stuff that we offer for sale to folks who need a quick step away from the mundane routines of every day life. Inexpensive entertainment on a lazy weekend afternoon.
